Frequently asked

Questions, answered.

Warranty terms, install timing, clay soil, pet odor, playground safety, what makes ForeverLawn different — the most common questions we hear, with straight answers. If your question isn't here, call (913) 586-5340.

AstroTurf vs. artificial turf — what's the difference, and is that what you install?

You're not crazy — most people use "AstroTurf" as a generic term for any synthetic grass. It's become a genericized trademark in the same way "Kleenex" stands in for tissue. Technically: AstroTurf® is a specific brand (originally installed in the Houston Astrodome in 1966) that today is owned by Sport Group and primarily makes athletic-field surfaces. It's a separate company from us.

What we actually install is the ForeverLawn® family — K9Grass, GolfGreens, PlaygroundGrass, SportsGrass, LandScapes, and SplashGrass. ForeverLawn is its own manufacturer (Louisville, Ohio), and we ARE ForeverLawn for the Kansas City metro.

If you searched "AstroTurf installation near me" and landed here, you're in the right place — modern synthetic turf is dramatically better than the original AstroTurf carpet from the 1960s, and ForeverLawn's product engineering (multi-layer backing, Knitted Flow-Through Backing™ on K9Grass, IPEMA-certified PlaygroundGrass, FIFA-tested SportsGrass) is what most people are actually looking for when they say "AstroTurf."

What ForeverLawn product lines does ForeverLawn Kansas City install?

ForeverLawn Kansas City specifies and installs the full ForeverLawn product portfolio across the KC metro: K9Grass® (pet surfacing for vet clinics, daycare, and residential dog yards), GolfGreens® (custom putting greens), PlaygroundGrass® (IPEMA-certified safety surfacing), SportsGrass® (FIFA-tested athletic fields), LandScapes® (residential and commercial landscape turf), and SplashGrass® (water-play surfacing for splash pads, pool decks, and waterparks).

What areas in Kansas City does ForeverLawn Kansas City service?

FLKC's office is in De Soto, KS, and we install across the entire Kansas City metropolitan area on both the Missouri and Kansas sides — including Overland Park, Olathe, Lee's Summit, Lenexa, Independence, Blue Springs, Liberty, Shawnee, Kansas City KS, and Kansas City MO. Recent FLKC projects extend out to Lawrence, Topeka, Atchison, Grandview, and Hollister.

Does artificial turf work on Kansas City's clay soil?

Yes — but only if the install is done right. Most synthetic turf failures in the KC metro aren't the turf itself, they're the base prep. Kansas City clay doesn't drain naturally, so we engineer a multi-layer base sized to the site, with drainage tie-ins where the conditions demand.

Every install we do is spec'd for KC clay specifically — no out-of-the-box base packages, no shortcuts. Done right, the surface drains instantly and stays flat for decades. This is the part DIY synthetic turf kits skip, and it's why FLKC installs outlast the alternative.

How does artificial turf hold up in Kansas City weather?

ForeverLawn synthetic turf is built for extreme weather, and KC throws the full spectrum: 100°+ summers, ice storms, freeze-thaw cycles, hail, and humidity. The fibers are UV-stabilized and resistant to fading. The three-layer backing system drains instantly, so freeze damage stays minimal. K9Grass and PlaygroundGrass include antimicrobial protection built into the polymer (Microban, AlphaSan) for hot, humid Midwest months.

KC-metro installs span pet facilities, playgrounds, vet clinics, and residential lawns across Westwood, Lenexa, Atchison, and beyond. Real Midwest weather, real install life.

How long does artificial turf installation take in the Kansas City metro?

Residential installs typically run 2–3 weeks from first call to crew on site, sometimes faster for urgent projects. The actual install runs a few days for residential yards, longer for commercial projects, sports fields, and complex sites.

We don't book months out — we have our own local crew and the schedule moves fast. Commercial and municipal projects with bid cycles run longer naturally. Call (913) 586-5340 for current scheduling.

Is artificial turf safe for kids and pets?

ForeverLawn synthetic turf has been independently tested by the EPA, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Connecticut Department of Health, the Massachusetts Bureau of Environmental Health, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Penn State, and toxicologist Dr. Laura C. Green. The 2008 CPSC staff statement concluded synthetic turf fields are "OK to install, OK to play on."

K9Grass® is built with AlphaSan® antimicrobial silver-ion technology manufactured directly into the polymer. PlaygroundGrass® includes Microban antimicrobial and X-Static anti-static — engineered into the material so it does not wear away. ForeverLawn products are also guaranteed to surpass strict lead-free guidelines.

How long does ForeverLawn synthetic turf last? What's the warranty?

Every ForeverLawn product we install carries a 15-year warranty — among the strongest in the synthetic turf industry. SportsGrass fields are also independently tested to FIFA standards. Real-world install life routinely exceeds the warranty term when properly maintained.

What makes ForeverLawn different from other artificial turf brands?

Multi-layer backing system. Every ForeverLawn product is built on a three-layer foundation: a polyurethane scrape coat that locks blades in, a frothed urethane padding layer, and a 100% post-consumer recycled-bottle geotextile (Project Yellowstone) — all engineered together to drain instantly, resist mold, and accept proprietary micromechanical seaming.

K9Grass®'s patented Knitted Flow-Through Backing™ drains edge-to-edge at extreme rates — over 1,000 gallons per minute on third-party tests vs. ~30 gpm for the perforated-hole pet turf that's the category default. BioCel® polyurethane in the backing is derived from soybean plants. ForeverLawn prioritizes US-made manufacturing.

Why isn't ForeverLawn sold at big-box stores or as a DIY product?

ForeverLawn is installed-only — by design, not by accident. The reason most synthetic turf installs fail isn't the turf itself, it's everything underneath: base prep, drainage planning for clay-heavy soils like Kansas City's, edge anchoring, and the proprietary micromechanical seaming that can't be replicated with adhesive or pressure tape from a hardware store.

The three-layer engineered backing system, K9Grass®'s patented Knitted Flow-Through Backing™, BioCel® renewable polyurethane, and SafetyFoam Pro for playgrounds aren't pallet products — they're installed systems. The 15-year manufacturer warranty on every product line requires ForeverLawn installation. A kit from a big-box store voids the warranty before the seams even set.

Budget DIY synthetic turf is a legitimate option for a small temporary patch — but it's a different product category than the installs we put in for schools, vet clinics, municipalities, and homes built to last fifteen-plus years.

How do you maintain artificial turf? Cleaning, brushing, pet odor?

ForeverLawn turf is dramatically lower maintenance than a real lawn — but not zero. The basics:

Routine: rinse with a hose every few weeks (or after heavy pollen/dust). Pick up debris like leaves before they mat down. Brushing against the grain with a stiff-bristle broom or power broom every 3–6 months keeps the blade standing.

Pet yards (K9Grass): solid waste comes off with a hose. AlphaSan® antimicrobial is built into the polymer to inhibit odor-causing bacteria — but for high-traffic dog facilities, a periodic enzymatic rinse keeps things fresh. The Knitted Flow-Through Backing™ drains rinse water edge-to-edge.

What you don't need: mowing, fertilizer, watering, weed killer, aerating, reseeding, or a sweeper attachment for most residential installs. Commercial sports fields use a power sweep periodically.
